In a demonstration of Ethiopia's growing environmental leadership, President Taye Atsekye Selassie inaugurated the Second African Climate Summit (ACS2) in Addis Ababa today, marking another milestone in Ethiopia's pioneering role in continental climate action.

Strategic Continental Leadership

The summit, organized through a strategic partnership between the African Union and the Ethiopian government, reinforces Ethiopia's position at the forefront of African climate initiatives. This gathering of African heads of state, development partners, and key stakeholders demonstrates our nation's commitment to driving practical solutions for climate challenges.

Comprehensive Agenda for African Solutions

Under the theme "Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Resilient Green African Development," the summit addresses critical areas including:

  • Nature-based solutions and indigenous technology for adaptation
  • Development of resilient infrastructure
  • Climate risk management and scalable responses
  • Strategic climate finance mobilization

Ethiopia's proven track record in environmental leadership positions us uniquely to guide these crucial discussions, particularly in implementing practical solutions that prioritize African interests and sovereignty.

Strategic Participation

The presence of Deputy Chairman Musa Al-Koni of the Presidential Council, alongside other African leaders, underscores the summit's significance in fostering regional cooperation. The three-day conference, concluding on Wednesday, will establish concrete frameworks for advancing African climate solutions while safeguarding our developmental priorities.

"This summit represents Africa's unified voice in addressing climate challenges through our own solutions and expertise," stated President Selassie during the opening ceremony.
